The Natural Sciences Summer Research Program (NSSRP) and other STEM undergraduate research concluded their 8-10 weeks of research with the Summer Research Poster Session on August 9. Family, friends, and the Benedictine community were invited to hear about the excellent projects that the students have been working on. Over 30 undergraduate students participated in one of the research programs along with 14 faculty mentors. Students were engaged in independent research on various topics such as molecular processes of the BRCA 2 gene, lithium ion batteries, how bacteria communicate, designing and testing new compounds, and investigating the environment is impacting turtles and frogs. The students did an amazing job communicating complex science and answering questions. Throughout the year, students will also be communicating their findings within the scientific community at local, regional, and national conferences. You will be hearing more about these students as they represent Benedictine University at these conferences throughout this year. Job well done by both the students and the faculty mentors!
